Screaming punk from head-to-toe, Japanese label Blackmeans started out in 2008. Using freestyle and folksy elements to create its avant-garde line of leather beauties, Tokyo and London are following Blackmeans with every step. Influenced by the crust punk movement in England in the late eighties, its overt aesthetic is created through its hard-done D.I.Y techniques. The main hue being black, radical silhouettes are formed to make motorcycle jackets, skinny denim and sleeveless tops. Covered in studs, spikes, patches and tassels, designers Yujiro Komatsu, Takatomo Ariga, Masatomo Ariga and Tomoko Moriya have traced roots back to Tokyo’s most iconic underground stores for its inspiration.
